The BIG NEWS this week was obviously the release of the much anticipated Instagram for Android. This has been a long-time coming and it was due to the amazingly successful foundation that iPhone users have created that made this so high in demand.
For over a year, Instagram has been iPhone-only. Android users have missed out on some of the pains that we’ve been through. But the users here before now have worked hard to create a great sense of community. So I feel like it is our responsibility to welcome you to the community and help provide you with resources that will make your Instagram experience the best it can be.
1. Post your own pics. Stealing photos or posting photos that aren’t yours is frowned on. Especially when you don’t credit the photographer.
2. Follow others first, comment often and you’ll get followers. Asking someone to follow you will get you blocked and reported as a spammer.
3. Take advantage of Statigr.am. It’s a great resource to see stats on your pics. This will tell you best times to post.
4. Participate in challenges. It’s a great way to be part of the community and learn.
5. Hashtags are useful, but don’t abuse them. Tagging your pics with an irrelevant tag is also considered spam.
Please visit @instagramphotoguide for starters. It is a great resource to follow!
This brings me to my open mic question this week: “If you are an Android user and new to IG, let us know here! How has your experience been so far? For us IG veterans, what tips can you leave here to help new users have the best experience?” Let’s discuss and please be positive!

My fist impressions as an Streamzoo user who took a look at IG are a bit mixed.
While I like the square format sometimes, it’s not always the best way to transport the message or feeling you want. Another thing I miss are better features to interact with other users and some kind of lightbox image view without any comments like SZ has.
But indeed there are many inspiring people so I’ll use it from time to time as second network. To discover new people but also for pictures where I think the square format works well.
When it comes to discovering people IG as well as SZ could improve a lot. The popular wall on IG seems to be a bit useless to me since the quantity of followers doesn’t often seem to have to do anything with the quality of their pictures and the comments there are also pretty much spammed with follow/like requests. Maybe IG without the popular wall would be even better. Here I like the idea of SZ to be able to follow special streams without having to search those every time you want to watch them.
What I would like to see on both networks, IG as well as SZ, is something like a limited stream where people can just apply one photo per week to. People would just pic their best picture of the week and at the same time we could discover hundreds or thousands of users and styles without having to deal with 10 or 20 pictures of the same person in the stream. I think this would be a big improvement to discover other artists. A bit like the photooftheweek tag just with real upload limitation and better integrated – maybe instead of the popular wall and with some kind of slideshow view.
Leif, I really love your ideas. IG’s popular page is definitely a useless tool in my opinion. Well, that is, unless you love cats and half naked girls?! A light box would be a fantastic idea.
Oh, and thanks to this site. This helped so much to discover interesting people 🙂
Awesome and welcome to not just IG, but to We Are Juxt! Let’s have fun! =)
Welcome Android peeps!!!
First i was a bit excited about the instagram thing.. Thought it would be a amazing place to share my photography. A year a go I subscribed to the thing on a friends iphone. Now I tryed to log in with my droid. and it seems that it isn’t possible. I get network issues and log in is refused! so i created a new account under the name skl_groningen. As LaZyLiFe is not available no more. I don’t like the standard square pictures. I have loads of wide-angle shots on 16:9 or 4:3 and it just don’t work cropping them all. So now I have to create a Passe-Partout on all these images. Just too much work. so I keep to my most preferred network Eyeem.
If i have to rate IG.. Out of 5* i give it a 2*
SZ is 4* and i like MyTubo more than IG. 3*
