Since We Are Juxt‘s first show in January 2012 at Cafe Zeitgeist, The Darkroom Series, cultivating the local mobile photography community and exposing it to the city’s already great art scene was a mission. 9 months later, 4 other exhibits under our belt, it just made sense to partner with Instagramers Seattle.
On Saturday, September 8th, JUXT and Instagramers Seattle hosted the biggest mobile exhibit in Seattle. We featured 150 photographs from 150 local photographers. United by mobile photography and the connective nature of Instagram, the community help show the beauty of our beautiful city, our beautiful surroundings, our beautiful and Great Pacific Northwest.

The event was held at Neptune Coffee in Greenwood, Seattle; a popular place amongst those in and around the neighborhood. The owner, Dan, employees and community art managers, Kim and Stephan, really provided a great support in playing host. Not only did they serve with a smile, they also provided the support to a budding arts community. If you are in Seattle, make sure to come down to Neptune to support them.
We had an incredible turnout and even noticed people leaving and coming back! People mingled, introduced themselves and shared tips. 200 nametags (and we gave out nametags later in the evening) was handed out and handles of all the local instagramers can be seen inside, outside, and down the street. The vibe was amazing and everyone was happy!
The show is up until the end of September so if you are in the area, please make sure to check it out.
Also, if you were in attendance, if you were in the show, if this was your first Igers Seattle or Juxt event, PLEASE leave your comment on what you thought of the event. We would love to hear from you and get ready for our next community wide event.
Read what others had to say:
“It was exciting to see such a diverse group of mobile photographers becoming connected in person, discussing each-other’s work, and sharing perspectives on this new era of democratized photography. Great job by Juxt and IGers_Seattle, it was an amazing turnout!” – Scott Everett aka @scotteverett
“It was such an honor to be selected to exhibit amongst Seattle’s finest mobile photographers and incredibly exciting to attend the opening night. When I arrived, I couldn’t help but feel a little giddy about the number of people filling Neptune and spilling out onto the sidewalk–all there to experience this unique show. My next step was to connect with the creative force–Bridgette, Rachel, Jen and Brad–who so carefully selected and then curated the exhibit. I loved the flow, the color blending, the choice of hanging implements. Everything about it was fresh and thoughtful. But my favorite part of the evening was the chance to meet all of the people who make up this supportive and special community of Igers Seattle artists. Every single person I met was just as lovely and kind in person as they are online. Compliments and praise were generously offered, new friends were made, and I left walking on air. Summer Vibes indeed.” – Audra Mulkern aka @poodleheart
“Having just moved a month ago from San Francisco, it was awesome to see the Instagram community just as alive and communal as it is in the app’s birthplace. While I haven’t been in Seattle long, it’s been fun for me to explore a new city – upon looking at all the photos culled in the exhibit, I was proud to already be able to recognize a lot of the scenes from around Seattle. All in all, the exhibit was a treat to be a part of, and I had a great time with new and old friends united by the same passion: documenting adventure.” – Laura Lawson aka @lauralawson
This show would not be possible without the sponsorship and support from our friends over at PostalPix. Their services provided the beautiful images on not just this wall on Neptune but for future events as well as our Food Frenzy and Autography exhibitions. HUGE thank you goes out to Dan for hosting us that evening and to the baristas, Kim and Stephen, for getting our orders in quickly and providing great customer service and support. We couldn’t have done it without you!
A BIG thanks to the organizing committee (Bridgette, Rachel, Jen, Jeff, Darvin, and Brad) for their hard work.
Most importantly the largest most appreciative shoutout goes to the artists and photographers who contributed, participated, and supported this work.

The evening was complete with music from DJ SOSA, @taylorswiftgang. This is not the first time that Sosa was involved with the local Seattle mobile photography and arts community. In January, he was a part of the Class Project that filmed the event and provided documentary footage of Juxt’s first mobile photography exhibit, The Darkroom Series – it goes without saying that we really enjoy his music and his artistry. People were jamming and even the kids wanted a spin at the turntable!

The night was exciting and the energy remained high all evening but in the end it was time to close down the shop. It was truly a night to remember and we are extremely proud of our community and and are so thankful for the support who you have given us.

I loved the exhibit! It was the first mobile photography exhibit I had ever been to since I start becoming interested in Instagram and the vibe was great! Everyone was extremely friendly and outgoing and I had a great time getting to know a couple other people whose work was in the exhibit as well
