A little over one year later, I have had the opportunity to witness two major events demanding the return of an NBA team, wait, the return of our beloved Supersonics to the Emerald City.
The City of Seattle has been without an NBA team since 2008.
Sonicsgate, which is one of the strongest forces in the city, brought together the community one last time in 2013 before the NBA Board of Governors votes on the relocation back to Seattle on Wednesday, May 15, 2013.
This is the city’s last rallying call until we find out their decision. Chris Hansen and his band of millionaire superheroes have been lobbying and putting up millions of dollars to show the NBA how serious they are, we are, in having our beloved 41 year legacy return. A night hosted by Shawn Kemp and Tilson with music from some of the city’s best hip hop, cameos from major politicians, and even more importantly, hundreds of Sonics fans came together to celebrate the accomplishments of Sonicsgate, Chris Hansen, and the voices of our city.
I had the opportunity to ask Geo aka Prometheus Brown from the Blue Scholars and Adam Brown, one of the directors of Sonicsgate about the Sonics and let you all hear through their voices why its so important for the Sonics to return.
This is important to not only the fans who have been here but more importantly for the future fans of a cultural icon in the Pacific Northwest – Bring Back Our Sonics.

One quick follow up question, though. Do you think it would be better for Seattle (and the league for that matter) if the NBA expanded to 32 teams, keeping the Kings in Sacramento, adding another team in Seattle, and another in the East? Or would you rather just take the Kings? I don’t think moving OKC back to Seattle is going to happen.
As much as Seattle wants an expansion team, Stern has adamantly said no. Financially the owners wouldn’t say yes to expansion as they lose money on the deal. As for Sacramento, the fans in Seattle don’t want to do it, but its the team for sale. Sac has put up a crazy fight and are probably going to win based on all the news chatter…Have you seen Sonicsgate yet? it spells out exactly why Seattle understands somewhat what the Kings fans are experiencing. The difference is, Chris Hansen has never lied about his motives. When the Sonics moved to OKC, it was all a lie that Clay and Stern were having hidden from the public. Thier motive all along was to move the team and not allowing enough time for Seattle to organize like Sacramento has done now. An expansion is best but doesn’t look like its in the cards. OKC back to Seattle? Never going to happen. Clay owns that team AND heads the NBA relocation committee (coincidence to why the reloc comm voted 7-0 against the Kings to Seattle move).
BTW when you come up here in the fall or winter for whatever reason, let me know as we may have to get you to shoot an NCAA football or basketball game with us =)
