The Peacemaker by Dr Pajchiwo aka Wojtek
Nokia Lumia 800 (on Windows Phone 7.8)

I took the photo while my daughter’s class was playing on a mini ramp. I set “a capture in motion” on my Lumia 800 and shot a series of pictures during the kids were running and jumping. The one looks exactly how I planned: expressive and dynamic character in the foreground. For post-processing I used mainly the great app Fantasia Painter (selected blur and “white point fix” adjust).

I took this photo on the first day of work at my new address corporative, my days got better after I work facing this wonder. As like other photographs in black and white, I decided to record the moment and also eternalize it that way. Make corrections in Lightroom and then do the black and white effect in Photomatix.

Nokia Lumia 1020 + camera grip + tripod (Gorillapod).

ISO 100, focus to infinity.
Used the auto EV bracketing function of the 1020, 5 exposures -2ev to +2ev by 1ev step.
Then I manually combined the 5 exposures in Photoshop using layer masks.
This is one of my favorite spots in Dubai Marina, I have shot this view with my D300, then my D800. So I really wanted to shoot it also with my Lumia 1020.

Bangkok is full of interesting looking rough streets. I was walking around one day and noticed this particular soi (side street) and a man happened to be walking on it. I took out my phone and got this photo. I converted it into black and white and did some basic adjustments (contrast etc.) in Photoshop.

This picture was captured in Toruń (german Thorn), central Poland. It was last Saturday before an examination session-very difficult time for every student. I was sick of it all, so I’ve broken away from learning. Photographing is meditation for me. It is an escape from negative karma that destroys everything which I aspire. I thought about it and I wanted to show on a picture. I had stood 10 minutes before I took good photo. Why a human being and a church is on the pic? The church- a house of God, is an escape from negative karma for many people. Dark parts of the picture mean negative karma, bright part- positive karma.

I processed this picture in Snapseed. I’ve changed contrast, ambiance and then I added a grunge filter.

Stay In Your Lane by Corvida Raven
Nokia Lumia 1020

As a Miami native (born and raised), winters in New York City are bittersweet. It’s ridiculously cold (even the sidewalks are frozen), but the beauty of the city continues to flow like hot tea and warm honey.
The contrast between the gritty NYC building on the left and winter wonderland on the right grabbed my attention. The railroad and people in the middle are what made me pull the trigger. Why? Because this contrast is an interesting analogy of how I see NYC: buildings and long blocks interrupted with glimpses of nature and a transportation system that does one hell of a job of connecting people moving through the city to everything in and around it.
This was shot with my Nokia Lumia 1020 and edited with VSCOCam on my Moto X using the k2 preset. I increased the contrast a little bit to bring out a more gritty and almost harsh feeling that accompanies NY winters.

This is random photo taken while I am going for a picnic with my friends. This place is not very far from city center. At the time making sense of the connection of wild and modern beauty which occurred when I recognized the bushes and the behind city center’s night scenes, I recorded that moment. I used 1020 to capture, used the Nokia Camera app, chose bracketing, chose 5 photos to take from -3EV to +3 EV, then mix them together by photoshops and customize them in order to suite my hobbies.

I chose these images because they’re fun, they scream “summertime” and they all told a story, as good photos do.- Jen

The Dutch love to talk about the weather. I’m no exception… I live in The Hague, a city at the coast. When the sun is shining in the center of town, it can be stormy weather at the beach. The day I shot this photo there were beautiful but also a bit threatening clouds hanging above the city buildings. Above the sea and beach the sun was shining in all its glory. I love the contrast and the mixed feelings (again) that come along with this kind of weather. The lyrics of ‘The Storm’ Jerry Ropero crossed my mind during editing the photo (Noir app).

photo (96)“Diving Into Summer” by @tephi

This was our first trip to the pool for this summer and as I’m sitting on my chair I see my 6yr old daughter do a dive for the very first time off the 1m board. I was so surprised I about fell out of my chair because we have not been practicing diving. I immediately grabbed my phone to get a photo of her second attempt, which this was. I wasn’t sure she was going to try again since she belly flopped the first one but she is a trooper and wanted to try it again and I said good I wanted to get a photo. She smacked on this dive too but she laughed and I told her how proud I was for even trying. Let our summer adventure begin!

I edited using Snapseed for detail and then Picfx and Mextures. I almost edited out the red umbrella but it looked like she was wearing a cape so I left it and she liked it.

The sea for me is a magical place, especially during the summer. When I go over there I sometimes get fascinated by children who play on their own. They always seem to be in their own magical world. This boy didn’t notice any people around him anymore, but was happily lost in his own great adventure. Watching him gave me a big smile, but at the same time I felt pain in my heart. This because of a personal matter concerning children. These mixed emotions showed in my editing. For this editing I used the Noir app to bring it back to black & white. Then I added (a bit of) color with the Mextures app. Besides the editing I always try to find matching lyrics of a song to ‘explain’ my image, to emphasize my feelings.

This image was taken with an iphone4s with the Hipstamatic app. With the Hipstamatic comes an array of lenses and film with different effects. Thus you can edit your pictures as you take them. I chose the Jimmy lens; it has a warm yellow glow to it, which just says summer to me. I used the Blanko Hongdae film, which gives texture and makes things look more like a print than a photograph. This was taken at the Memphis Botanic Gardens in Tennessee; there was an overgrowth of wild flowers near where they do some bee keeping. Yellow, flowers and summer go hand in hand so it was irresistible. If you double tap your Hipstamatic screen it will increase in size, you can then hold your finger on what you want to be your point of focus. I chose that flower that was in the foreground; I was then delighted a bee chose that same flower. So some luck and some skill gives you a hot time.

Story: I’d been looking for a car show in my city for the opportunity to take photographs and saw online that the 2014 Hot Rod Power Tour was making its 2nd stop in Knoxville, Tennessee  http://www.wbir.com/story/life/2014/03/04/hot-rob-power-tour-plans-stop-in-knoxville/6012735/ in early June so I grabbed my husband who’s a gear head and my teenage son to see what it was all about.  Thankfully, both were tolerant of my frequent stops to take multiple shots of whatever beauty of a Hot Rod caught my eye and since my husband loves vintage and fast cars, he was able to tell me make and model and even what kind of motor is under the hood. It was an eye-opener and learning experience all rolled into one Car Show! This was the start of many subsequent Summer events in the city which has kept my iPhone on the go, go, go.

Process: I took this photo of a 1957 Chevy Nomad station wagon because the fin design was just so striking. I used Pro Camera 7 app at 3:2 aspect ratio on my iPhone 5 then exported the image to Vscocam app. There I used adjustments to sharpen the image slightly and give a little contrast. No cropping was done and I chose N1 filter to bring out the beautiful red tone.

– Inspiration: The idea came to me from looking at some collage-decollage; a technique that I really like together with the mixed media.

– Apps: Camera+ – PicFx – Vsco

– Detail proc.: I recovered an old box of medicines and cut into little strips of a few millimeters wide,to start a small collage on paper.
During the process of composition (by changing the arrangement often) I decided to take pictures of the parts that I found interesting in terms of aesthetics.
I began to process the photo, and some textures have brought out the small details of the spots and shadows giving the illusion of a glimpse of a face peering through the slit.

Attached is one (fairly) high resolution copy of Mourning Mist. My inspiration is not all that inspiring really… I found myself alone on the lake early Sunday morning 2 weeks ago and decided to try my luck at getting the beautiful but distant rain soaked clouds in with the glorious sunrise. I did but they never made the final cut…lol.

My process is fairly simple, open in Xnview turn to black and white and save, then 3 vintage #20’s and 2 bloom #4’s. I then saved the image and put the first black and white save through decim8 CHIP13h and save again. I then blended the two images with superimpose (screen setting I think) and viola…. mourning mist.

I show on Instagram @preciousnest and the same on Flickr but haven’t been to either in ages. I have been very busy but hope to return to them soon.

This particular photograph was taken in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire England.  really enjoyed on this day particularly as the weather was providing quality light to have an abundance of shadows. And the lines on the road and architecture making some great leading lines. The gentle man walking down the street was a great bonus to this shot.

Taken using the Sony Experia Z in colour.

Edited in PixlrExpress and Snapseed for the black and white and framing.

In this crazy wonderful world of mobile artistry, we come across people that touch our lives in special ways unknown to us before. Last month, I had the wonderful experience of meeting one of my longest time followers from Instagram, a person who has become one of my dearest friends, when he flew across the country to visit. Who else but a fellow mobile photographer would answer “The Galleries” when asked what he wanted to see during his only day and first visit to NYC. So off we went to Chelsea to shot in SlowShutter. From the series “Chelsea Sunday” (first run, post 5). Shot with SlowShutter cam, edited with ArtRage, Procreate, MobileMonet, Blender, Laminar, and Flowpaper.

The Violinist by Nikky Stephen

I ride the bus to work every morning and get down at the University Street Tunnel Station. One of these mornings, I happen to stumble upon this violinist lost in his world of music. Obviously he was playing for money, but for some reason, he chose to face away from the people. I noticed the fantastic symmetry that the tiles, the wall and the ceiling made and seized the opportunity to quickly whip out my phone and capture this photograph. It is one of my most favorite street photographs.

This was shot using a Lumia 920 and processed using the Snapseed app on my iPad.

Repose by Ryan Vaarsi
Nokia Lumia 1020

When I need peace, I go to the ocean. I can make better sense of myself there. The waves create a kind of white noise that erases much of the dreck that tends to clutter my mind. The sand, the birds, the scent of saline air all help to remind me how much I love where I live. I can get centered. Get a grip. My preference is for Zuma Beach, up in Malibu where the tourists don’t often venture. But the PCH can make that trip an exercise in frustration, so this particular day found me in Santa Monica, atop the cliffs peering out at the Pacific.

The thing that I love most about this photo is the unseen bits and what they say about this place I’ve come to call home. Maybe 30 feet behind me was Ocean Ave., which is a sort of Möbius strip of perpetual traffic. It’s lined with hotels, condos, restaurants, and nightclubs and there is all of the attendant anarchy and assorted nonsense that generally attend such places. Valets scramble, cabbies beep at seemingly nothing whatsoever, the traffic lights talk to you and a half-dozen languages can be detected at any given moment. It is the standard brand of mayhem that one generally encounters at any tourist locus.

But there is also this. This moment of peace. Something I’d call Zen if that didn’t seem so easy a word to throw at it. A woman, a tree and the ocean beyond. LA is full of these places, these moments. Runyon Canyon, Griffith Park, the hills above Silver Lake Reservoir. Weird and glorious snatches of space-time in which I can find remarkable clarity and peace hidden in this screaming, entropic mass of 4 million other human beings.

I shot this photo with a Nokia Lumia 1020, using the Nokia Camera app set to auto. I exported it to my iPhone 4S (at the expense of some resolution) so that I could process it in Snapseed.

Matheran is a small hill station near Mumbai, where we had gone for just a day. The day was very hot, so we tried to make the most of the short evening before returning home. This photo is from one of the numerous sunset points there (I forget the name). I was lucky to get a few decent shots of the sunset – well, if one has the 1020 it’s not entirely luck 🙂 I don’t have very good eyesight, didn’t realize I had captured the tree as well (bottom right in the original), but in a way it’s good that I did, because cropping it out of the picture while keeping the sun centered has made for a prettier panoramic memory.

Photo was taken in Latvia, it was early in the morning and I was working when I saw a beautiful sight through my living room window. I used DNG format on my 1520, so it needed a bit of post processing which I did with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.3. I increased exposure reductions contrast, highlights and clarity to make this photo more smoother and of course I reduced luminance noise. Shutter speed was 2.7 seconds, maybe a better choice would be to use Nokia 808, but I wanted to give Nokia’s only phablet a chance to prove what it can do!

Sometimes you have to get lost to find what you’re looking for…
While taking MARTA (Atlanta’s public transit system) to a meeting, I got off at the wrong stop: Peachtree Center Station. What is usually a highly annoying situation became an inspirational moment. Peachtree Center Station is as cavernous as an underground cave. A space you’d expect the city of Atlanta to hide its residents in during some apocalyptic war or zombie/alien invasion. The moment I took this image, it became a work of art.

I used Nokia’s Creative Studio to convert the image to mono/black and white. I transferred the image from my Nokia Lumia 1020 to my Motorola X and applied the b3 preset from VSCO cam along with minor adjustments to the contrast and brightness.

1000 Words, Instagram Vol. 1 June 2014 by Jen Bracewell

Welcome to our very first themed Instagram 1000 words showcase! There are many talented artists on Instagram and we wanted to tap into their creativity and showcase their work here. I chose “Double Exposure” as the theme for this showcase. It’s a favorite and I’ve seen so many gorgeous double exposure images of late, whether shot as such or blended in post-processing, double exposures are a fascinating way to juxtapose images and weave a tale.

Grryo believes that mobile photographers/ artists tell stories through the photographs/ images and art that represents their families, their environment, themselves. This is important because of the level of communication that is portrayed in imaging today.

We want to support the mobile arts community by having a place for artists to share, discuss, and critique (if requested by individual). These dialogues help the individuals and the community to grow.

We look forward to you and your art. We thank you for your contribution to the mobile photography/ arts community.

I chose these images based mostly on gut reaction to them.  I love an image that leaves you wondering, wanting to know more. These images are technically  brilliant, mysterious and there’s a story behind each one.

ig1 To find your courage you must find your fears.

Apps used: iPhone5 native camera  | Union App | Mextures

Inspiration:  when dealing with any situation in life we sometimes build roadblocks for ourselves and create blind spots that limit us in some form or fashion.  Periodically we are shown these roadblocks an realize some of them are fears that we’ve protected ourselves from by simple avoidance.  It’s in these moments that decide where we will go from there and test our courage if we decide not to stay on the path I least resistance and find out if we’re brave enough to move forward. – Brandon ig2 Walking the beach is something I do on a regular basis.

Early morning and late afternoon are my favourite times. This shot is special because it’s a rare photo taken when my daughter came home to visit. She lives in another state and it is rare that she allows me to take a few photos. You can just see our dog in the frame walking behind her. It is moody and dream like. The random figures in the distance lining up with a double headland echoes a different journey. The main shot was taken in hipstamatic Florence lens and Irom 2000 film and then layered in using Diana app using another beach shot. I used Ghost filter. I like Diana’s random selection as it forces me to look at different compositions. It can be a slow process as there are many images not used. You can also load them into the app by selection. My camera roll is full of beach shots and blurry movement shots where I move my iPhone set on HDR setting. I don’t mind the flaws of imperfection. I think that is what makes it interesting. Using dxp has always been a favourite technique and with so many apps giving you this ability to explore there is endless possibly. – Glenda photo-6 My son was given a toy plane while wandering on an east bay beach, San Francisco looming in the background.   The mechanism that controlled the propeller was broken and he was determined to fix it then and there.  I wanted to juxtapose that idyllic childhood moment with the idea of future and expectations for our youth, exploring the legacy that we are leaving our children on this damaged earth with the hope that they will build something better. I used an image taken with Hipstamatic in downtown SF to layer and mask over his silhouette in Image Blender.  Texturing and color palette manipulated in Mextures. – Heather ZDJCIE~1 This edit  was inspired by words / as almost all my edits, as I am huge words lover. Words I wanted to paint here,  describe love in really romantic  way , as it should be, as we all dream  to meet in our life :

“I carry you with me into the world,
into the smell of rain
& the words that dance between people
& for me, it will always be this way,
walking in the light,
remembering being alive together”

This work is really simple. First I edited two pics in Camera+ tokay them as dark as I could  and then  blended  in app called Blends. – Basia

photo (1) For this image, my sisters and I (@theladysbug and @withrobots) were all taking group/sisterly selfportraits in the bathtub. (I love cropping people out) I was learning, and expirementing with mirroring an image by blending images, instead of just reflecting the one image. (The original of this self portrait was posted over five times, in many different versions in my feed, only two made the cut This image in particular, I mirrored with Reflection and then I edited the mirrored version in Mextures, trying to make each half a different color scheme. Then I used MultiExpo to blend each half of the image with the other. I touched it up a little with Snapseed, and that was it! – Catherine

photo This image “Oh Theodore” is part of a series of images I’ve created using photos I’ve taken of my legs in various poses and fashions. Not sure why I started this series, but I think it has to do with my love of fashion, especially as used for self expression.  As for my editing process, I started out with the photo I took of my lower legs wearing leggings and black boots, I then isolated this image in Superimposer and saved on a white background. I then blended that image with another image (flowers on a letter I created in Blender and Snapseed) in the Blender app using the setting Plus Lighter and adjusted to my liking. I then moved the image to Snapseed for final adjustments on color, brightness, etc.  And that’s it, the story of “Oh Theodore”. – lorenka Processed with VSCOcam with s1 preset

It was Sunday afternoon, the sun was shining and I could smell the fresh cut grass in the backyard. Sundays remind me of a day for relaxation and just taking it easy. I immediately knew what image I wanted to create. This is an image of my son and the grass in the front yard…before it was cut. I liked the long single blade of grass and the seeding piece just off to the right of it, it looks like a closed eye. The single piece reminds me of headphones. It’s as though he’s listening to music, eyes closed, and enjoying the smell of the fresh cut lawn the breeze brings through the window on a Lazy Sunday. – Ginger

About my edit, i really don’t know what to say about my edits, (im a few words guy), but i can say: my inspirations are: minimalism, nature, geometry, architecture and human body and the relationship between them. Juan

As a fact: i started doing those edits after seeing the:

First of all it is an honor to be a part of this group. Big Thanks to
Jen for choosing my image for the feature.
What i can say about this photo… It is a part of the series named
“Between presence and time” and it represents My absence. With  this
series my main drive was to express an old and ancient sorrow that is
going out. A bleeding shadow. The hidden part of my being.  And this
photo represents my absence.  The in between. A place where i can
taste, touch, smell and see a pure essence of my being. A place where
an endless chatter of human mind is silent.
Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to share my Inland
World with this beautiful family. Much Love.- LJ

the winter left behind, the spring well settled and while we are waiting for the summer to step in, we really don’t have any valid excuses to not to go out and observe life unfolding in front of our eyes! And yet, I just wanted to take a few minutes to look back at those cold months, which have finally gone, it’s more of a Mea Culpa for slowing down in those months and telling myself that it was too cold or too rainy or too foggy or just too… Forgive me father, for I have sinned, I have sinned of inventing excuses and not going out to photograph during this winter. Forgive me father, for I have been lazy and lost incredible opportunities, opportunities that these great artists below have actually managed to catch by being in the right place at the right time! So, this is just a lesson for me that teaches me one simple thing, which is that every season has it’s hidden beauty and that we are the one that don’t want to see it… Thank you for teaching me this!

With Love,

Nostalgia by Mohsen Chinehkesh

One of the things that makes street photography so fascinating for me is the fact that it’s like an unpredictable journey. In any moment there’s a chance to face an unexpected appealing situation or subject and, needless to say, with an iPhone you have no excuse to miss it. This photograph comes from such a moment. I was walking back home when I suddenly noticed a guy with a literally old-fashioned look. Tight suit, chapeau hat, long boot-like sideburns, mustache, etc. Such an outfit which remembers Iranian of the years before 1970’s (or 1360’s in Persian calendar) has a nostalgic impact on most of them. For me he was almost like a time traveler! I looked around to find a suitable place in his direction and there was an old brick building right next to a large modern shopping center. I stopped by the building and the guy reached the scene simultaneously with a woman wearing a black Chador which somehow completes the nostalgia. Definitely this photograph has some exclusive significations for Iranian but no one can blame others for what they see in any picture!

I took the photograph with Hipstamatic Classic (John S + AO BW) and then re-edited it with Oggl (Foxy + Uchitel 20) to reach a more vintage look.

Winter Sun by Lee Atwell

The weather has been unusually sunny this winter in the Pacific Northwest which has provided unusual opportunities to capture urban shadows. Normally our short winter days are filled with clouds and rain and it can be difficult to feel inspired to take photos. However, on this particular day, after walking across a pedestrian bridge that crosses a railroad track, I was struck by the looming shapes of the shadows cast by the people coming towards the bridge.

I used the Hipstamatic app with the Tinto 1884 Lens and BlacKeys SuperGrain Film with Flash Off

The image was taken in Soho and been meaning to use this wall as a backdrop for some time and this person in the photo seemed to work well. I used the iPhone camera to take the photo and processed through Snapseed and Noir.

Hazy Shade Of WInter by Sheldon Serkin

We’ve had a lot of opportunities to shoot in snowy/rainy conditions in NYC this winter, with what seems like one storm after another hitting the city. I captured this image shooting through a car window on one of those snowy days, as two New Yorkers trudged their way to work. Shot with oggl, processed with the Diego lens and Uchitel 20 film.

There is a first for everything. My first today is to like and choose a cat. An amazing collection with a main theme of mystery with a hint of gothic taste. I’ll keep it short today, because I want you to enjoy more the wonderful photos for this amazing showcase. Thank you to all the great artists here for their support! – D.C.

Molly The Cat by David Denagel

It is a portrayal of Molly, my cat, awakening from her sleep.  I wanted an image of her essence as a cat, and for me, that is summed up in cat’s eyes.  The photo was taken a close range and hand held. Only a room lamp provided the lighting and Molly was in her favorite chair.  I used an iPhone5 and only Hipstamatic.  The combo was Tinto 1884, Robusta film and Jolly Rainbo 2x flash. (The Hipstamatic “flash”, in this case, did not provide any external light but added an additional darkening filter to the image.)  I felt this processing would give a dreamy and moody coloration to the image, deemphasizing hard lines, while drawing a dark vignette around much of her head.  This treatment produced a quality of both mystery and some menace (characteristics of many felines, even the most sweet like Molly.)  David DeNagel @dcd49 on Oggl

A Bitter Medicine by Dale Smith

INSPIRATION: I have always been inspired by literature and imagery from the Victorian era… it was a time of great change. The world was on the cusp of mass modernisation and I consider that time to be a juxtaposition of darkness and light. Darkness and light fascinate me… I hoped to convey a little of that mystery in the image.

STORY: The subject of the image is my daughter and last year we decided to have an impromptu photo shoot. She dressed in an appropriate gown and we used several props in order to convey a sense of mystery… tell an open-ended story…

I wanted to give a “Gothic” feel to the image, yet also make it seem timeless. Therefore, the story could be from any era. I also wanted the viewer to question what was being illustrated. Has the girl taken medicine? Is it medicine or poison? The “close” aspect of the image… waist height… was deliberate as I hoped that the viewer may experience a certain proximity to the figure. As if she had administered the bottle to they themselves…

PROCESS: The original image was shot using an app called CCV… I prefer this app because it is a very simple camera replacement app yet very powerful, and it captures images in TIFF format meaning that I can go back to them without loss of quality.

I converted the image to black and white in Snapspeed, cropped, and applied the center focus and grunge filters, experimenting to get the desired effect. A good way to apply the grunge filter in Snapspeed is to choose a particular filter then dial the effect down to zero… this can give a dreamlike quality to an image.

Finally I imported the image into Oggl, where I have it the “Tinto” effect…

Siouxsie Petals by Cindy Buske

This shot was inspired by my daughter, Aymber. We were shooting images for fun, and she stepped away for a bit, returning with this elaborate make-up job and costume. She created the look on her own, but when I saw her, the first thing I thought of was singer Siouxsie Sioux!  Aymber had never even heard of Siouxsie, so we looked her up together.  I had Aymber pose with the rose petals of various colors and sheer tulle fabric simply because I had them available.  We used a black backdrop and soft studio lights.  I often work with my two daughters as artistic collaborators and photo models.

The image was shot on Hipstamatic-Oggl , G2 lens + Kodot XGrizzled film.  No post-image processing was done.

Wet Wet Wet by Rob Pearson Wright

London is wet at the moment. Not as wet as the UK as a whole but still pretty soggy. Many parts of the country are doing a fairly accurate impression of the film ‘Waterworld’. The Thames Barrier is working overtime to protect the capital from a similar fate. I live in a basement and fully support their actions.

I love the Southbank, an area of London full of culture, brutalist architecture and people. On a day with a brief respite from the seemingly constant rain and wind, I took a walk along that area of the River Thames. Some of the characters seemed to be missing that day, perhaps perturbed by the threat of more bad weather.

As I passed the people, theatres and galleries, I found a spot alongside the river which seemed to sum up London’s mood at that particular moment. Battered by storms, sick of the cold and damp, and longing for Spring to turn up with some sunshine. How do you capture that in an image?

Well…you wander into a massive puddle, crouch down while your shoes get soaked and take the shot you envisaged. Apart from a child splashing through the shot with a parent’s apology everything was as smooth as a well conditioned cat.

The reflection was what drew me to the shot and the moodiness of the clouds, which seemed to threaten further rain. No one would sit on that bench that day. It would be isolated by the water around it and an air of loneliness would linger.

It took the shot with the native iPhone camera and ran it through Snapseed to tighten up some of the details. Then I used Mextures for some grit and scratches. Finally I used Noir for a vignette effect and to emphasise the stormy menace lurking in the clouds.

Flickr 1000 Words Showcase 71

My dearest, welcome to yet another week of greatness. This time we have fallen for the artistic super effects, the master of editing and creating and super-imposing and the wizards of the FXing. These people know how to render the normal and the ordinary into extraordinary feasts for the eyes! Hidden deep within we can find powerful messages that are embedded in their work and this is truly one of the aspect of photography that I love. One image only suffice to tell a 1000 words’  story, so let us start looking and feeling and reading and be amazed at what we see!

A special thanks to all of you that are supporting me and for you encouragement, which I truly appreciate!

yours,

Malaysian Dancer by Tuba Korhan
Last month I came across to a group of Malaysian dancers in a mall. They are dancing in their traditional costumes to generate publicity for an airline company. After the show ended I asked one of them if she could pose for a couple of shots. She was very kind and accepted my request with a beautiful smile. In this portrait I tried to emphasize her beauty and warm smile. In order to get rid of the crowded background I decided to create a new one. The inspiration came from the artificial orchids on her hair. I used a few different orchid photos, which I had captured before. I edited the new background and her portrait separately, as if these were two different photos and then composed the images on Leonardo app. The other apps I used through my process is Snapseed, Facetune, Tangled, Autopainter and Pxlrexpress+.

Picasso by Giancarlo Beltrame

This image is part of a new series that is taking me a lot in the beginning of 2014 – One, no, a hundred thousand – whose title was inspired by a novel by the Italian writer Luigi Pirandello. It takes some themes very dear to me: the presence and the memory of works of art that moved me a lot, the mask as the contemporary human condition, the eye as the seat of the look that leads to knowledge.

The title of artwork is ” Picasso “. It is a digital collage. The base is a self-portrait taken with Hipstamatic for iPhone in front of the famous painting by Picasso’s “Les Demoiselles d’ Avignon ” at Moma in New York. From my library of shots I then recovered the lips, eyes (two different, one is mine and the other is a female), a flower transformed into a little and bizarre hat.

If the mask is an inner journey in meanders of my mind, the cubist painting by Picasso makes good of the multiplicity of forms of my psyche, which gathers together different aspects of the same personality.

All this work has been done by working with Superimpose. I then researched the color tone that I liked with PS Express and PhotoCopier

Lifecycle 3 by Dani Salvadori

Taken in Hipstamatic. Lens: Americana,  Film: Robusta, Flash: Redeye Gel. Slight sharpening in Filterstorm Neue, slight touch up in Touch/Retouch

Story behind the image: My father died a few weeks ago after a long illness, coincidentally 2 days after I had finished a year long story-telling project on Backspaces. The two events have combined to almost paralyse my image-making; the only thing that seems to motivate me is chronicling the demise of the flowers I’ve been given since my father’s death. This image is from a bunch of tulips I received in early January. I love tulips because they start off straight-laced but end up wild. This one has a particularly fleshy intensity that is almost sexual; a last burst of life before the end.

El primer Episode (The First Episode) by Ana Villanueva.

The red line between women and men as a sign that something may be wrong. What is the price to pay for not feeling lonely?

The story behind:

The “Family Mandates” Series speaks of all impositions we received since we were children. My intention is to express that happiness consists in doing what one feels independent from social mandates. Destroy preconceptions to live in freedom.

The Cereal Killer by Cedric Blanchon

This photo is the sequel of my photo overconsumption, the same concept, object and food is mix with the human body, the first speak of overconsumption, this one is more surrealism I think, the title is a tribute to the movie Henry portrait of a serial killer, suicide with cereal, milk and cereals replaces blood and brains. I use superimpose, Snapseed, vfx studio, afterlight apps.
